1. Screening of short films directed by African children in view of showcasing answers to local challenges:

A TREE IS WORTH MORE THAN ITS WOOD (Guinea - 2014 - HD format - length 19m11s - Deforestation due to inhabitation)
Synopsis: Each morning, Aguibou goes wood chopping before heading to school. Intrigued by the progressive disappearance of the natural resources surrounding his village, he decides to investigate.  Assisted by his friends, he will make some curious and interesting discoveries…
Challenges: Deforestation is an immense issue in Guinea. This film examines the causes and consequences of this phenomenon while simultaneously offering solutions such as improved dwellings, better selection of the species to be cut, or a return to proactive laws.

SIDIKI, THE COACHMAN FROM COYAH (Guinea - 2014 - HD format - length 15m39s - Child trafficking)
Synopsis: Overwhelmed by the domestic tasks given to her by her host family, young Aïssatou can’t attend school. At market, she meets Sidiki, who will introduce her to other children dealing with work. Together, they may just find their way to school...
Challenges: Child labour is part and parcel of a multitude of contexts, rendering obsolete any approach vying solely for its repression. There are numerous parameters to factor in, and this film seeks to show part of this diversity. The film also places the focus on support from peers and professionals.

THE APPRENTICES (Guinea - 2014 - HD format - length 16m35s - The occupational integration of youths)
Synopsis : Aboubacar is apprenticed with a carpenter. In order to pay for his training, he teaches classes of his own to the neighbourhood youths. Without tools or real professors, however, their progress is limited. Encouraged by Mariame, they decide to create their own training centre.
Challenges: Training centres for apprenticed youths are more and more scarce in Guinea, largely for lack of resources. Guinean youths are increasingly and overwhelmingly left to their own devices. This film is inspired by the true story of Guinean youths who banded together to set up their own training centre. It takes a look at RGAs (revenue generating activities) and raises the question of young women’s place within the professional sphere.

THE EASTERN FOREST WILL NEVER DISAPPEAR (Madagascar - 2015 - HD format - length 18m20s - Deforestation due to agriculture)
Synopsis : Solofo et Mahery are two young farmers from a small Malagasy village. Seeing their crops diminish from year to year, they start to investigate. They’re about to discover the forest is worth far more than money, and that other cultivation methods are possible.
Challenges: There is often a conflict between preserving fauna and flora and ensuring the needs of a local populace seeking to sustain itself. In order to curb forest exploitation, other revenue generating activities must be put in place, and this film brings some of them to light.

PROUD TO BE A MOTHER (Madagascar - 2015 - HD format - length 21m20s - Supporting teenage mothers)
Synopsis: As she became a mum at too young an age, Diamondra is an outcast. A group of children will introduce her to another young mother who isn’t suffering from the same stigma. Diamondra will discover and become interested in solidary nurseries, facing opposition from her partner...
Challenges: Young mothers can find themselves cast out by families unable to provide for the extra mouth to feed. Often, they are forced to leave school and find themselves on their own, which can cost them their future. Solidary nurseries allow a young mum to take charge of her own destiny, by learning to better care for her child, undergoing professional training, and so much more...

TSIARY, A NEW START (Mada - 2015 - HD format - length 21m11s - Alternative education for street children)
Synopsis : Tsiary is a minor just out of prison. Used to getting by in the streets, he’ll come across a school unlike any other, where the programme includes acrobatics and juggling tricks. Tsiary will gradually be drawn in, before the streets try to lead him back their way...
Challenges: In Madagascar, a significant number of children drop out of school, largely for lack of money. They start doing odd jobs and, becoming used to surviving through resourcefulness, hardly find their way back to the classroom. Certain associations base their approach on alternative education, centred on the arts, to captivate these children and set them back on the road to school...
