Montreal based singer/songwriter Tara Baswani draws deep into her experiences growing up in India, and nomadic travels, to create her vividly textured sound-scapes as a storyteller.

Metaphorical lyrics, woven into art rock, soul and world music traditions and beds of cinematic arrangements define her innovative compositional trademark… setting the stage for the imagination to wander into her unique electro-organic universe, accompanied by her distinct voice, with it’s raw, sensuous and almost eerie quality.
As singer/composer for the Indian band, Mrigya, she has won the prestigious Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As the lead singer/lyricist/co-composer for Cirque du Soleil’s show, Kooza, her music has been featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the Late Night Show with Conan O’Brien.
Fresh off a seven-year stint with the Cirque du Soleil, touring all over North America, Japan and culminating in a month’s residency at the Royal Albert Hall in London, she has recently released her debut solo project, Quest: Origins, offering her ode to every woman’s journey in search of her identity, autonomy and empowerment.
Tracing Tara’s journey to find her own meaning in the world, Quest: Origins broaches subjects explored within a series of conversations and moments shared with women across the world, at different points in time and space, crystallized through deeply personal lyrics, art and video collaborations.
It’s first single, My Kind ,was released on International Women’s Day 2015. Directed by filmmaker Tim Georgeson, this protest song/art film was created in the hope of increasing awareness about the issue of sexual violence worldwide. The next single, Breakdown, has snagged a coveted premiere on AUX TV and introduces the artist’s collaboration with Toronto-based animation director, Virpi Kettu. The video’s imagery sets the tone for Tara’s interlaced aural/visual language and defines the artist’s leaning towards multidisciplinary language for performance.
